  1. Our Hong Kong Itinerary: Highlights

    June 19, 2019

It’s our first trip together as a couple, and we’re here to explore all the possibilities this city-state has to offer; sights, cuisines and experiences.

  2. Lin Heung Tea House 蓮香樓 @ Central, Hong Kong

    June 16, 2019

Step inside the renowned Lin Heung Tea House, and one would be transported to the ’60s or ’70s Hong Kong. This charming place serves dimsum by an old lady with a push-cart, the best Char Siu I’ve tasted, and an old-school Cantonese restaurant experience.

  1. Kung Wo Dou Bun Chong (公和荳品廠) @ Sham Shui Po, Kowloon

    December 21, 2018

Kung Wo Dou Bun Chong (公和荳品廠) is one of our favourite eateries we’ve found in Hong Kong, and the best soy beancurds we’ve tasted. What makes it so special?

  2. Simple.簡 @ Bendemeer

    November 21, 2018

Simple.簡 is my current favourite nasi lemak joint. It’s probably one of the few places offering butterfly pea-infused blue coconut rice. They offer unique side dishes like the prawn-paste fried chicken cutlet, creating a twist to this ubiquitous Malay dish.

  3. Dong Ji Fried Kway Teow @ Old Airport Road Food Centre

    August 14, 2018

Dong Ji Fried Kway Teow is a popular Kway Teow stall at the Old Airport Road Food Centre. Plenty of raving reviews and passing cravings led me to try this sweet and savoury local dish.

  4. Soi 19 Thai Wanton Mee @ Ang Mo Kio

    August 8, 2018

Soi 19 is home to the famous Thai-style Wanton Noodles. Their springy egg noodles that’s flavoured with pork lard comes with a generous amount of char siew, Chinese sausages, fried wantons and the lot. It’s so good, it’s making me want to come back for more!

  5. The Salted Plum @ Circular Road

    August 5, 2018

The Salted Plum is a fresh new face in the dining scene, and it’s really reminiscent of the now-defunct Five Ten. There were star dishes that costs either $10 or $15 like the Burnt Chilli Chicken, or the traditional hot favourite Braised Pork Belly. At such pocket-friendly prices, it’s an amazing place for both lunch and dinner.

  6. Vietnamese Pho: Pho Thin @ Lo Duc, Hanoi

    July 28, 2018

Pho Thin is an unassuming pho outlet in Hanoi’s Old Quarters that sells the best pho there is. Unlike many other beef pho, the beef here tastes caramelised, garlicky and charred.

  7. Salted Egg Chicken @ Jia Yuen Eating House

    June 29, 2018

Jia Yuen Eating House is home to one of the best hawker-style salted egg buttermilk chicken. The crispy chicken cubes, drenched in salted egg cream sauce goodness, simply satisfies any salted egg cravings. The stall itself does not have any signboards or menu, and probably serves only one item.

  8. A Noodle Story @ Amoy Street Food Centre

    June 10, 2018

The popular Singapore-Style Ramen from A Noodle Story packs a lot of quality ingredients like the really tender slice of pork chashu, crispy potato-wrapped prawns and so much more. It’s the talk-of-the-town now and has snaking queues of curious gourmands.

  9. Gyu Nami @ Amoy Street Food Centre

    June 8, 2018

Gyu Nami tops my “affordable and quality food for $10 and below” list with their only wagyu donburi. For only an impressive $10, you can get a quick fix of their appetising wagyu beef, done to a medium-rare perfection. It’s so good, it’s making me want to come for more each day.

  10. Yi Dian Xin HK Dim Sum (一点心港式点心) @ Kovan

    May 30, 2018

Yi Dian Xin HK Dim Sum dishes out delicious dim sum at very affordable prices. If you’re looking for an alternative place for dim sum besides the usual Swee Choon and 126 Wen Dou Sha, look no further. They’ve got one of the best Liu Sha Bao (Salted Egg Custard Buns), Siew Mai and more. Located in Kovan, you don’t need to travel out to Jalan Besar to satisfy your cravings any longer.

  11. Sin Heng Kee Porridge @ Hougang

    May 20, 2018

Sin Heng Kee Porridge has, dare I say, one of the finest Cantonese-style congee in Singapore. The smooth and gooey porridge will leave you craving for more especially during rainy mornings. With such an affordable bowl and a humble shop, it really feels like an authentic, home-cooked meal.

  12. Kim’s Famous Fried Hokkien Mee @ Jalan Eunos

    May 13, 2018

Being born in the ’90s, I wish I had the opportunity to try Kim’s Hokkien Mee back in its heyday. After all, the Hokkien Mee is one of my favourite hawker food. After a long hiatus before the millenium, Kim is back at the helm to dish out a really flavourful decades-old recipe of Hokkien mee.

  13. Thai Gold Food @ Sunshine Plaza

    May 5, 2018

Delicious Thai food that’s cheap? Certainly a few have sprung up in Singapore in recent years. Thai Gold Food itself had an authentic Thai vibe; with 90s-style street-side restaurant decor, and servers that communicate in Thai with one another. The food certainly is pretty authentic and tasty, and one that’s affordable.

  14. Perfect for Groups: Swiss-Inn Hotel @ Johor Bahru, MY

    April 29, 2018

Swiss-Inn Hotel’s Tatami 6 rooms in Johor is perfect for a short getaway for groups. This modern and clean room type with comfortable ambience and amenities is considered great lodging at budget friendly rates.

  15. Salted Egg Chicken (Halal) @ Marsiling

    April 28, 2018

After much hype from my Muslim friend, I decided to try this salted egg dish in Marsiling. Plus point? It’s halal. While I may be skeptical over the taste of some Halal tze char food, this dish certainly changed my view. It’s creamy. It’s bursting with flavour. It’s more than what I expected out of a salted egg chicken rice.

  16. Upper Seletar Reservoir @ Mandai

    April 25, 2018

This is our first time getting to Upper Seletar Reservoir, having passed by the road so many times. I thought that it looked beautiful whenever I see it, but how will it fare? Will it be good for photography? An afternoon of picnic?

  17. redpan @ Marina Square

    April 10, 2018

redpan is the collaboration of design and food between DP Architects and the people behind GRUB. Featuring local flavours with a twist, redpan serves specialties like Bak Chor Foie Gras Pasta and other fusion dishes, all at an affordable tag.
