Recently, I’ve had the chance to go for a 2 days & a night trip with my unit section mates to Johor. We chanced upon a pocket-friendly hotel stay for 6 people (RM289/SGD 98 per night) at the Swiss-Inn Hotel, about 10-15 minutes walk from City Square Mall & the JB CIQ.
We got the Tatami 6 room, which housed 6 beds for us to sleep in comfortably. The room option provided us with two sleeping pillows and a small pillow per bed, with a blanket enough to keep us warm in the morning from a night of air conditioning.
Sufficient walkway between the beds gives us room for card games, and a space to sit and have a good conversation. The atmosphere of the room with the colour accents and lighting feels extremely cozy, and is an appropriate setting for team relaxation.
Keep your belongings safe with the safe box provided. But do so at your own discretion; leaving things in a hotel comes with different set of risks.
There is, however, a point of note that was rather unpleasant. Our view out of the hotel was an office building that stationed its garbage collection point right within eyeshot. The close proximity with the waste point is due to having our room on the second floor as well.
Regardless, if your main purpose was just for group relaxation, I’m pretty sure that you wouldn’t mind the view. After all, it’s just a small price to pay (excuse my pun).
Toilets come with two wash basins in the toilet common area, which brings extra convenience to us especially when we had to rush to check out. Full privacy is assured from the frosted glass doors of the water closet.
The shower room comes with both a rain shower and the ordinary shower heads. Yes, the water heaters equipped are working fine. The shower doors are coated with glass frosting, much like the WC.
The television set was rather disappointing. The Tatami 6 includes a mini screen, probably about 24-inch in size. By today’s standards of 32-inch panels in hotel rooms, this is rather small. However, it had a sufficient network of channels that included BBC and Channel NewsAsia.
Other amenities provided include the bar fridge, 6 bottles of mineral water, an electric kettle, soap, shampoo, laundry bags, toilet roll and sanitary bags.
If Wi-Fi is what you’re wondering about, the connection speed is decent and not too slow. Average is what I’d say. However, to access the service with more than 6 devices, you have to log out of one device first.
Bonus: plus point for all gym junkies: there’s even a gym that opens from 7AM-11PM. Amenities in the gym are minimal and includes only treadmills, a bicycle machine and a cable machine.
Although, I feel that the exterior outlook of the building looks neglected, the interior was rather well-maintained. I was happy with my stay here, even if it’s just for a night. Being within a kilometre radius from the CIQ and City Square, I would definitely stay with Swiss-Inn again if I get the chance to.
Total: $10+ per person per night
